You can see from the photo that the side bars do fit a Gen 1 Expedition (despite the Aries Website that says they don't fit) and I didn't have to drill holes. This bolts to the original factory holes. I'm happy with these bars, but they are a little weak. I would imagine that a larger person would bend the brackets or bars.
