It is this time of year when millions of Americans decorate their homes for the holidays. Many will spend countless hours untangling lights, stringing them along their gutters and decorating their Christmas trees. You may have a fake tree, which you pull from the depths of your crawlspace every year and piece together or perhaps you are more traditional and drive to the nearest Walmart parking lot to pick out a pre-cut tree. While either of these options are fine choices, we have a better idea, you should drive to your local tree farm and cut your own tree.
Here are a few reasons why you should cut your own tree.
A fresh cut tree will give off a smell of fresh evergreen that will permeate your home. This is a very familiar smell that your family will forever associate with the holiday season.
Christmas tree farms are actually a very sustainable agriculture as the trees cut down this year will be replaced by new trees in the spring, continuing the cycle of life. It is a really good business model.
When you purchase a tree from a local farm, you are doing your part in supporting local business. This is also a great way to connect with those in your community.
The tree you cut down will have been in the ground for around 15 years, where it has been improving our air by emitting oxygen and providing for wildlife in numerous ways.
There are several ways in which you can recycle your cut tree after the holidays including chipping it up for mulch.
Your family will enjoy hiking through the fields in search of the perfect tree, it is an afternoon trip they will not soon forget.
Lastly, the tree you cut from a farm will probably be cheaper than the one you buy at the local market.
Now, loading a tree onto the roof of a car can be a problem and could ruin the trip altogether. It is far easier to load a tree in the back of a truck. So clean out the bed of your truck, shine your Fuel wheels, load up the family and go cut your Christmas tree!
