Cleaning Your Ballistic Wheels

4th May 2018

If you love your truck, and really love your Ballistic wheels, you take pride in how it looks. This means you spend time and money ensuring your truck looks presentable. You can have a nice, clean and shiny truck, but if you don't have clean wheels, the entire look kind of falls apart.

Maybe you are just too lazy to clean your truck wheels, or perhaps you just don’t know how to properly clean them, this can be a problem. BB Wheels offers you tips for cleaning your truck wheels like a pro.

Start with the Basics

It really helps if you know exactly what you are cleaning. So you need to determine if your wheels are made of chrome, steel or aluminum alloy.

If you have a nice set of truck wheels, they could be done in any number of finishes. It is also important that you understand your wheel finish and how you can better maintain them.

Beware the Brake Dust

Brake dust is on all wheels and it can be a huge headache. Brake dust is the result of your brake pads rubbing up with the brake discs, which produces small metal filings that fall all over your wheels.

If left alone, brake dust will corrode and damage your wheels, so you need to clean them on a regular basis.

Start with the Tire

Before you scrub up your wheels, you need to clean your tires first. Spray your tires with a cleaning solution, scrub them down with a tire brush, and then rinse them off and either dry them off or allow them to dry on their own.

When your tires are nice and clean, then you can tackle your wheels.

Use the Right Products

As we stated earlier, your wheels are made from different materials and have any number of finishes, so you need to find the right cleaning products. For example, you don't want to use a chrome cleaner on your alloy wheels.

Polished Wheels

Polished wheels are uncoated wheels with no protective finish. These type of wheels require more maintenance than chrome or painted wheels. Careful considerations must be made when cleaning these wheels. For example, you must avoid cleaners that have an acid-base as this may damage your wheels.

We recommend you check with the manufacturer to determine how to clean your wheels.

Chrome Wheels

Clean chrome wheels with a soft, non-abrasive brush using mild soap and water or a mild degreaser. It is also important that you dry your chrome wheels with a soft, non-abrasive towel. Chrome is a very soft metal and can be easily scratched and otherwise damaged.

Painted Wheels

Painted wheels are coated with a protective clear coat, which protects the painted surface of the wheels. To clean them, you use a soft, non-abrasive brush with soap and water. Dry them with a towel that is soft and non-abrasive.
