If the Weather Was Warmer, You Would Simply Go Outside and Polish Your Truck Wheels Again
22nd Nov 2016
The week leading up to Christmas Day takes an eternity if you’re a kid. It’s the same way for adults who think it takes an eternity for the turkey to reach the table on Thanksgiving Day. Face it, you might be just a little antsy Thursday morning, but by noon you are pacing around like a father expecting triplets.
And even worse, the kids are restless as well, jumping all over the place and being general nuisances. If the weather was warmer, you would simply go outside and polish your truck wheels again. But you are stuck indoors with rambunctious kids, a turkey that is taking forever to cook and a wife whose left eye is starting to twitch.
Look, you did your part in the kitchen already, cooking up a wonderful side dish from a previous post. But now you need to find something you and the kids can do to pass the time and stay out of the spouse’s way. Here are some fun games you can play while the turkey is in the oven.
Board Games
The easiest way to kill some time while the turkey is roasting in the oven is to break out a few board games. You can try something new like Mindtrap or Speak Out or you can go with more traditional games like Monopoly or Mousetrap. These types of games are an easy way to get everybody involved and lose track of time.
Card Games
Every household probably has a deck of cards to break out for such occasions. There are so many games that people of all ages can play including Go Fish, War, Uno and Crazy Eights.
Xbox
You stay up late at night playing games like Grand Theft Auto, Bioshock and Call of Duty, but there are also plenty of family-oriented games you can play on the Xbox. For example, the Hasbro Family Fun Pack offers countless hours of family fun and endearing experiences for ages with games like Trivial Pursuit, Risk and Boggle. You will also enjoy the delightful social features including feeds, leaderboards and trophies.
Computer Games
Gather the kids around the computer, get online and play one or two of the many games that are free to play. Club Penguin is a massive multiplayer role-playing game that uses cartoon penguins as avatars. Players explore a winter wonderland virtual world where you can earn coins that can be spent at a virtual store.
NASA Kid’s Club is an online game linked to real mission information. Players get to explore space from the comforts of their own home.
Smartphone
If your kids are at that age when it is nearly impossible to get their faces out of their smartphones, here are a few games you can play. Words With Friends is basically Scrabble where you create words from letter tiles and get points. If the weather allows, you can download Pokemon Go and chase down the likes of Charmander, Ivysaur and Squirtle.
