If You Want to Keep Up With the Joneses, You Need to Slap Your Moto Metal Wheels on a Luxury Truck

20th Dec 2016

Once upon a time, trucks were little more than rural workhorses with uncomfortable cabs and no luxury options. Even a cursory glance at any pickup truck these days and it is quite obvious some serious changes have been made. While a stripped-down version of the work truck of days gone by are still offered by all manufacturers, at the other end of the spectrum is the luxury truck.

These posh entities offer nearly every luxury feature you could possibly imagine. These luxury trucks are marketed with such monikers as “High Country”, “Limited” and “Platinum” and easily rival their luxury car cousins in quality, materials and special features. That is, you are sure to enjoy the plushest carpeting, highest-quality leather and latest cutting-edge technology in a truck.

The Wall Street Journal collected data in 2015 that showed 22 percent of all pickup truck sales exceed more than $50,000. In 2010, just 9 percent of pickups sold were over $50,000. What does this tell us besides the fact that prices for pickups are rising? It tells us that people are spending good money for luxury trucks.

The reason why so many people are opting for a luxury truck that sets them back more than a Lexus or Mercedes would is because a luxury pickup is a perfect option for down-to-earth people who want to stay true to their roots. In other words, they want to jump into a higher social status while still able to haul their broken refrigerator to the dump.

What this means is that if you want to keep up with the Joneses, you need to slap your Moto Metal wheels on a luxury truck. Here are the top luxury truck choices.

Chevy Silverado High Country

If you have the cash to throw around, kick it up a notch and order your Chevy Silverado High Country with the embossed seatbacks and High Country badges. And if you really want to strut your stuff, kick in the diamond white tri-coat paint, but anything more would just be saying screw you to the haters.

Other options for this luxury truck include a rear seat entertainment system, LED cargo box lighting and a power sunroof. And to think your dad had to crank the AM radio to 11 to hear anything on that single speaker.

Ford F-150 Limited

While you might not need a $60,000 truck, you might really want one.

While you might feel a bit absurd driving a rolling symbol of American excess to the lumber store for a few 2x4s, there is no doubt you feel safe and comfortable doing so. Or perhaps you feel safe and comfortable because the Ford F-150 Limited can parallel park itself while giving you a massage. That’s right, this truck does have massage seats.

We aren’t above using an old cliche to point out that “this is not your dad’s pickup truck.” If you haven't been following the truck market in the last several years, you are in for a ride, a luxury ride that is. Between the massage seats, auto parking and 360-degree cameras, you can get through rush hour without breaking a sweat.

Cadillac Escalade EXT

A surprise to nobody, the Cadillac Escalade EXT is the most expensive luxury truck on the market. A long list of standard equipment includes Bluetooth, 22-inch wheels, rearview camera and a remote starter. But most impressive is the fact you can remove the divider between the passenger compartment and pickup bed to reveal a bed.

GMC Sierra Denali

The GMC Denali boasts heated and cooled front seats, a heated steering wheel and a heavily chromed exterior.
